...EXPECT A CIRCUS

AUGUST 1 + 2, 6pm
THE WORKROOM

The latest offering from Suspended Play and Educational Circus (SPEC)

SPEC Circus is delighted to announce its second production, ...EXPECT A CIRCUS, a captivating collection of contemporary circus works revolving
around the theme of the power of the body.

Inspired by Roxane Gay’s concept of the “unruly body,” through aerial, juggling, tightwire, and dance, these works subvert conventional circus aesthetics to interrogate the politicization of
physical form. Rather than spectacle for spectacle’s sake, ...Expect a Circus spotlights thE dedication, activism, and discipline of circus arts while examining how bodies resist, provoke,
and challenge the political sphere.

SPEC, founded by artistic and life partners Mykelle Walton and Jennifer Thornquest, is a creative collective rooted in connection and driven by curiosity. Joy-slingers. Space-makers. Artists. Producers. Creatives. Together, we suspend play and inSPECt what circus can be. SPEC is more than a company; it’s a dynamic space for
experimentation, education, and artistry.

A.P.E.'s programming is made possible in part by sustained support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts.
