CHIQUINHO

WORKS BY CARLOS SEMEDO

AUGUST 2 - 29, 2025
SPLIT LEVEL GALLERY

a curated selection of prints from the artist’s oeuvre

This exhibition is curated by Sophie Gill and Adrienne Albro-Fisher as part of A.P.E.’s Emerging Curator Program

Informed by Semedo’s Southern upbringing, Chiquinho, prioritizes color and light—each photo's individual mood is tangible. Often photographing subjects from musical and artistic countercultures, Semedo seeks to paint each individual through his own visual codes formed while growing up in a saturated sunshine state. What’s implied through this lens is a larger narrative; each photo reveals a cinematic logic beyond a single frame, fueled by Semedo’s innate curiosity.

Through the use of portraiture, Chiquinho welcomes viewers into the world of Semedo; the exhibition is an invitation to explore the essence of each moment frozen in time. The stories captured are rich, tender, and exude warmth.

CARLOS SEMEDO is a Central Florida based visual artist with a focus on photography and collage. Known for his creative directorial collaborations with musical artists, Semedo has gained significant traction as an artist. His self-driven photographic practices are a reflection of his initiative and willingness to circumvent institutional barriers to formal training in a pursuit of knowledge. Semedo’s work shows a fluidity between personal projects and commissions or collaborations. He brings a restrained originality to every image, reflecting a natural confidence with storytelling.
