Marty Hernandez Avedon

Picture
Portrait of Staten Island: Eric Garner Triptych
2021
digital photo collage, 11x14.67 inches
$50

Currently a Northampton, MA, resident, Marty Hernandez Avedon was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. He enjoys taking photographs of street art. The imagery in "Eric Garner Triptych" is from two overlapping photographs taken on the north shore of Staten Island, not far from the bus platform where Eric Garner was killed by the NYPD in 2014. Artist's proceeds from this work will be donated to the Justice Committee (JC), "a grassroots organization dedicated to building a movement against police violence and systemic racism in New York City and empowering low-income Latinx and other people of color to address these issues." At this time (the autumn of 2021) the JC is campaigning for justice alongside the plaintiffs of Carr v. de Blasio, a judicial inquiry into both the murder or Eric Garner and the subsequent attempt to cover up the circumstances of his murder (https://www.justicecommittee.org).
