Serious Play! Intensive Physical Theatre Training for this year is scheduled for June 10 - June 13, at Bramble Hill Farm in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The workshop - for actors 15 years old through adult - will be taught by Sheryl Stoodley, Serious Play! artistic director, and Daniel Morbyrne, associate artistic director.
The goal of this training is to ground actors in the process, discipline and art of theatre. Students are both challenged and supported in exploring their individual histories and creativity in the context of an ensemble working toward total physical expressiveness on stage.
We maintain a commitment to diversity and to understanding each other's experience. By creating a supportive and respectful atmosphere, and using a variety of experimental and traditional theatre techniques, we allow each other to take the risk of being honest and to grow as an ensemble, as performers and as people.
Each of the four sessions will involve a series of training exercises from disciplines such as Suzuki, Linklater, Bogart, Spolin, and Stanislavsky. Warm-ups for voice and body, improvisations, scene work, and monologue skills will be presented daily.
